Oldnickelodeonshows.com
The delirious animated series Ren and Stimpy makes its DVD debut in a three-disc set that features seasons 1 and 2, as well as a handful of extras to please its devoted fan base. The surreal adventures of short-tempered Chihuahua Ren and good-natured but simple cat Stimpson J. Cat caught on like a house afire with teen and college audiences during its 1991-96 run on Nickelodeon, despite regular battles between the network and creator John Kricfalusi (who also voiced Ren and several other characters) over allegedly objectionable content in certain episodes. The conflict eventually led to several episodes suffering edits, much to the chagrin of the show's creators and audience alike; the unedited versions of these episodes have become much sought-after and traded items among collectors. And while this set attempts to rectify that situation by presenting the show in its uncut form, die-hard fans should know that several episodes retain minor cuts; however, many others, most notably the pilot, "Big House Blues," and "Powdered Toastman" are presented in their original, uncut versions. Extras include commentaries on seven episodes by Kricfalusi and the show's creators, storyboard galleries, a featurette, and the "banned" episode "Man's Best Friend." --Paul Gaita

Customer Reviews for  'Ren & Stimpy - The Complete First and Second Seasons'

LOVE THIS SHOW!
I actually didn't buy Ren and Stimpy off Oldnickelodeonshows. I bought all 3 at Wal*Mart many years before discovering Oldnickelodeonshows. I was no disappointed. The show is as entertaining now as it was when I was little. I've picked up on jokes and stuff I never noticed before. for those who don't know, ren and stimpy is and old 90's cartoon that starred a chihaha named Ren and his dumb side kick Stimpy. the show was insane! It had gross humor, cartoon violents, and many mind tripping moments that had kids laughing and sometimes on the edge. this was during a time where cartoons both appealed to adults and children so don't be surprised if you parents out there pick up on content your children may or maynot get. This first season is a little bit of an eye sore, but just keep in mind that these are some of the very first episode. Its not until the late season 2 that the animation begins to become artful. Ren and Stimpy is a very entertaining and fun show. There was no other kids show out there like it at the time. It had the balls to go where many kids cartoons today would never go. You have never lived through the 90's inless you've watched this show. Its worth a buy.

NOTE!!!: I must warn parents that the commentaries for episodes of the show contain strong language. If you don't want your kids to hear cursing don't turn on the commentary. I wouldn't say its too bad, but I know there are parents out there who don't like cursing. Other than enjoy.

I still love em
Despite everyone pointing out how scenes are still missing, for those of us who don't have them on DVD, this is still an excellent collection.

I have this set in my netflix queue but like most, I am still a little disappointed to see some stuff still missing. The entire bloody head fairy scene?!? That was one of the best parts of haunted house!!

Years and years ago, I bought a full set of original vhs recordings that were converted to DVD off ebay that I recently moved all to my home theater pc and after going back and watching some of them, I can appreciate having seasons 1 and 2 in better video quality. So that's the trade off I'm willing to make. I'll never get rid of my old original copies as they are the true 100% uncut original episodes but I'll also enjoy the choice to watch them in a better looking and remastered presentation as well as get some of the cool extras and unaired pilot.

I think it's also worth mentioning (if it hasn't been already) that the netflix streaming seasons 1 and 2 are missing about half the episodes. :(

REN AND STIMPY: DVD.
This cartoon was bizarre in 1991, and is still pretty tripped out now. The humor is quite different from the adult cartoons that are on now, like: Family Guy, American Dad, and King of the Hill, which actually is only on in reruns.

Mullins Reviews:Ren & Stimpy Seasons 1 & 2 UNCUT
Hello Oldnickelodeonshows Shoppers, today for my first review on the website, I'll be reviewing a DVD box set of one of my childhood icons, Ren & Stimpy.

When I was a child, Ren & Stimpy, were the insane, crazy nutjob of my childhood. The show was insane and so funny, you can't help but laugh at the animation expressions on the character's faces. Now years later of 2009, I would once again love my childhood icons again with the rare DVD box sets.

Now this DVD contains 32 episodes from seasons 1 and 2. Restored back to there original form, and more uhh.... insane. It also includes six audio commentaries by the original Spumco team, includeing the show's creator John K. A feature called "Ren & Stimpy: In The Beginning," a pencil test on one of the episodes, and some storyboard arts and more.

But before you buy this item, you may notice the word "UNCUT" on the box. About four episodes were back to there forms. For example the episode "Sven Hoek." But most of the times, it's an ok scene, nothing bad, just sometimes.

Some of my favorite episodes are on this box set like "Space Madness", "The Royal Canadian Kilted Yaksmen", "Stimpy's Invention", and "Robin Hoek." But the most surprised episode on this box set, is a "BANNED" episode called "Man's Best Friend." I never heard of this episode until now. I'm not going to say the story, but it was banned on Nickeoloden dued to "Animal Volince." But after I watched it, IT WAS SO FUNNY HA,HA,Ha...
Sorry.

I highly recommend this box set for Ren & Stimpy fans alike, and those who are animation or insane geeks. I love this box set, reminding me of times when Ren and Stimpy were the kings of comedy. Five out of Five, for this box set.

So what are you waiting for, press the History Eraser Button to watch this series!

Daniel Mullins/Ren & Stimpy Fan

P.S. ONLY RECOMMEND FOR MATURE AUDIENCE,IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 13 OR YOUNGER, DON'T BUY THIS.

Happy, happy, happy! Joy, joy, joy!
This is the best season of Ren and Stimpy ever! The one thing I didn't really get was The House of Blues episode or why they banned Man's Best Friend. The violence wasn't that extreme. Though it would have been pretty scary for the kids. The Uncut House of Blues was for the extra dialoge right? I just love this first season! OH JOY!!!
